Recently the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Airtel, Reliance Jio, BSNL and Vodafone-Idea (Vi) has introduced several changes to make the process of purchasing SIM cards easier and safer. This new SIM purchase process is completely paperless. And it will be very convenient and anti-fraud for Indian customers.
Now you don't need any paper to buy SIM, you don't have to go to the store
According to this new rule, users will no longer have to visit the office of the respective telecom company to buy or port a SIM. When buying a new SIM card, users can now do photocopy of the document or physical document verification online without any hassle.
DoT announced new SIM rules
The Department of Telecommunications recently announced these new norms through their official X handle. They said the paperless system developed in line with the government's Digital India initiative will go a long way in preventing fraud.
e-KYC and Self KYC
Among the new rules introduced by DoT are e-KYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) and Self KYC. Because with the help of these users can now complete the verification process without going to the office of the telecom operator. Also, now only one OTP verification process is enough to switch from prepaid to postpaid.
Users will be able to verify their documents online using DigiLocker. And as a result of this Self KYC process, customers will be able to manage their KYC process independently.
Prevention of fraud and counterfeit SIM cards
This digital system is primarily designed to prevent misuse of documents by users. This paperless system ensures that fraudsters will no longer be able to issue fake SIM cards. As a result, the risk of fraud will naturally decrease a lot. And for digital verification only users need to use Aadhaar card. And it will cost only Rs 1, that too including GST.
