Triumph-Bajaj has taken India’s mid-weight motorcycle market by storm by launching the Speed 400 at a starting price of Rs 2.23 lakh (ex-showroom). It is close to Royal Enfield Classic 350 in terms of specifications and price. However, in terms of technology, power and torque, the Triumph Speed 400 is far ahead. But in the roadster segment Royal Enfield has Hunter 350 present. The price starts from Rs 1.5 lakh (ex-showroom). It is Rs 83,000 cheaper than the Speed 400. Now the question is, if Triumph launches its own 250 cc roadster and scrambler bikes, how well can Royal Enfield stay in the competition?
Triumph will launch 250cc motorcycle this time
The names of two new motorcycles have been listed on Triumph’s official website. These are – Triumph Roadster 250 and Triumph Scrambler 250. The screenshot of which is viral on social media. Both 250 cc bikes can use single cylinder engines. That is, the idea is that it will be less powerful than Speed 400. Power is likely to be 25 bhp and torque 30 Nm. The official name of Triumph Roadster 250 bike may be Speed 250. Next comes the Scrambler 250.
Needless to say, the Speed 250 will follow the recently launched Spee 450 in terms of styling and features. The bike can be offered with a DOHC, four-valve and liquid cooled powertrain. Also, a slipper clutch ride-by-wire, and a six-speed gearbox can be seen. Weight can be around 160 kg. Triumph may use the same chassis, body panels and hardware in their 250cc motorcycle to keep the price down.
Triumph Scrambler 250 and Roadster 260 get 43 mm USD telescopic front forks. Besides, the motorcycles are expected to get LED lighting all around, 140 section rear tire, and semi digital instrument cluster. However, if the price is kept within 1.7 lakh rupees, only then will there be an opportunity to compete with Royal Enfield in front of Triumph. However, there is no word from the company about the timing of the launch of Scrambler 250 and Roadster 260. It may still take a year to come to market.
