BSNL is going to launch 4G services across the country soon. They have already upgraded mobile towers in many telecom circles and big cities to 4G. It is learned that the government telecom company plans to install 1 lakh mobile towers to provide 4G services across the country. And before the end of this month, BSNL wants to install 75 thousand towers. But even if the 4G service is rolled out across the country, many BSNL customers will not be able to use it. But why? Let's find out.

Not all phones can use BSNL's 4G service

In fact the Department of Telecommunication has allotted two spectrum bands – 700 MHz and 2100 MHz – to BSNL for 4G services. The government telecom company will initially launch 4G services using these two spectrum bands.

However, the capacity of the 2100 MHz band is limited. So customers may have problem getting network. Talking about the MHz band, on the other hand, it has been allocated for BSNL's 5G services. It will also offer 4G services.

However, the mobile device ecosystem is currently not capable of providing 4G and 5G services using the 700 MHz spectrum band. This is why Reliance Jio has the 700 MHz band in its possession but has not used it for 5G services.

However, the Department of Telecommunications is aware of the limitations of the 700 MHz spectrum band. So they have already asked mobile device manufacturers to confirm whether BSNL's 700 MHz or B28 band will be supported on 4G devices. Also advised to take appropriate action for those whose devices will not support this band.

As a result, it is clear that BSNL customers who are using old 4G phones may not get the company's 4G services. This may require a 5G smartphone.
