Apple M1 chipset along with a new MacBook and Mac mini revealed via a virtual event. This time Apple ditched intel for its mac desktop and MacBook. The company’s new chipset is based on a 5nm fabrication process and used an ARM-based chip. The company said that the new chip will bring improved performance and better efficiency.

Apple’s senior V.P of hardware technologies, Johny Srouji said that the company’s goal in creating the M1 chipset is to achieve “industry-leading performance and features while perpetually focusing on performance efficiency.”

Apple M1 Chipset Specifications and features

The new M1 chip sports 16 billion transistors and it is even higher than the 11.8 billion transistors used in the A14 Bionic chip. The CPU core has also been increased from a six-core to an eight-core arrangement in order to maximize the performance. Moreover, the M1 has four performance cores and four efficient cores compared to the two performance cores and four efficient cores on the A14 Bionic chip.

The new processor is stated to be three and a half times faster compared to the previous Intel-based Apple Mac model. The graphics speed also boosted five times faster as stated by the company. The Apple M1 processor possesses a 16-core neural engine that is capable of performing 11 trillion operations per second.

The new chipset also features a dedicated circuitry for graphics and AI processing. All the modules are linked with a unified memory architecture, this helps in eliminating the time spent in copying data internally on PC as it switches the processing approaches. The company claimed that it is the top performance processor ever made by Apple.
