6G in India: Nokia and Indian Institute of Science joined hands to launch 6G in India quickly

Nokia opened its first 6G lab in Bangalore, India in October 2023. And at that time the organization also said that it will work together with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). It was recently reported that Nokia and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) have entered into a partnership to jointly research 6G technology and 6G use cases, which can have a direct impact on Indian society.

In the coming days, the two organizations will work together on topics such as 6G radio tech, 6G architecture and the application of machine learning to the 6G air interface. In addition, Nokia said that through this joint research, they will develop software frameworks, reference architectures and algorithms to contribute to the 6G technology and standards ecosystem.

While the research is done keeping in mind the global market, the Indian market will be given special consideration in terms of 6G adoption. Nokia and IISC are focusing on 6G adoption –

  • Creating more sustainable and efficient communication systems.
  • Improving resilience and reliability of networks for communication.
  • Improving transportation safety, improving healthcare, increasing access to education using AI and developing “Network as Sensor” technology.
  • Also, through this partnership, both the organizations intend to make a significant contribution to the Central Government’s ‘India 6G Mission’. Which, can make India a key player in the development of 6G technology in the global market.

Nishan Batra, Chief Strategy and Technology Officer, Nokia, said, “We are delighted to be working with IIAC on technology. And they will help realize India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision as a leader in standardizing and implementing 6G technology.
