BSNL is going to launch indigenously developed 4G services across India very soon, after which the company said it will also launch 5G across the country. C-DoT (Center for Development of Telematics) has already started working for this. Note that BSNL's 4G rollout is delayed due to issues with the 4G core developed by this C-DoT.
According to a report by ET, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Chairman Anil Kumari Lahti said that work on indigenous technology for 5G has already started. And 5G services will be launched everywhere after few days of 4G rollout. Because, the 4G technology that BSNL is using is upgradeable to 5G.
Lahti also said that since the telco has been working with various companies for a long time, successfully rolling out a 4G network using indigenous technology will further improve the company.
He said that within a few days they are going to launch 4G using indigenous technology in about 1 lakh sites of the country. And for this, Tejas Networks has provided the Radio Access Network or RAN used at over 10,000 sites.
Meanwhile, Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) Administrator Neeraj Verma and Additional Secretary, Department of Telecommunication said that around 1 million (10 lakh) users have been added to the already deployed domestic 4G stack, which is quite significant for BSNL.
