Samsung's loss but buyers gain, Exynos 2500 processor dilemma

Samsung Electronics is facing major issues with its upcoming in-house Exynos 2500 chip for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 series. Now a new report says that despite the issues, the company is working hard to improve processor production this year. Let's get into this in detail.

Exynos 2500 chipset not ruled out yet

According to a new report from ZDNet Korea, the current production yield of the Samsung Galaxy Exynos 2500 chip is around 20%, far below the 60% required for mass production. As a result, doubts have arisen whether the Exynos 2500 will be ready in time for the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S25. Technology analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also reported that Samsung may have to use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 if production problems persist.

Samsung is focusing on improving the Exynos 2500, which uses Samsung Foundry's second-generation 3 nano process (SF3) and Get-All-Around (GAA) technology. This technology is designed to improve data processing speed and power efficiency.

The Exynos 2500 project, known as 'Solomon', represents a major investment for Samsung. If the company abandons the Exynos 2500 project now, a lot of resources will be wasted and Samsung's position in the semiconductor market will also suffer.

However, while Samsung has until October to improve production, Qualcomm plans to launch the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 in late October, which will put more pressure on Samsung to meet its target. If Samsung can't improve the yield, they will be forced to scrap the Exynos 2500 and rely solely on Qualcomm for the Samsung Galaxy S25 phone.

However, this can be a blessing in disguise for buyers. Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors have generally performed better than Samsung's Exynos chips. A full switch to Qualcomm could improve the performance and reliability of the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, but also increase the price.
