Not Samsung or Xiaomi, which company's smartphone is selling the most in India?

Vivo came to the first place by removing the rival Samsung (Samsung) in the Indian market. Again, Poco took the sixth spot among Android smartphone makers, overtaking OnePlus. The latest report of the International Data Corporation (IDC) revealed this information. IDC has presented the sales figures of various brands in the Indian smartphone market in the first quarter of 2024 in their report. Overall, the country's smartphone market witnessed a growth of 11.5 percent in this quarter.

Vivo overtook the Samsung brand in the first quarter of 2024

According to the latest report of International Data Corporation, Vivo occupied the first position in the Indian market with 16.2% market share in the first quarter of 2024. Samsung, which topped the previous year, fell to second place this quarter with 15.6% market share. In third place is Xiaomi with 12.8% share. Oppo, Realme, Apple and Poco are ranked fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh with 10.2%, 9.8%, 7.3% and 5.9% market share respectively. 5.1%, 4.6% and 2.9% of the market were occupied by One Plus Motorola and Tecno at the eighth, ninth and tenth positions respectively. Besides, the remaining 9.6% market share is held by other brands.

Incidentally, Poco ranks sixth as an Android smartphone brand with a whopping market share of 5.9 percent and seventh overall. Poco's market share growth has largely been due to targeting the Gen G demographic with multiple options across different price points. In particular, the Poco X6 series and Poco C61 phones played a major role in this success, which helped increase the brand's market share. According to data provided by International Data Corporation, Poco has also achieved significant success in the entry-level ($100 or approximately Rs. 8,350) segment. Although, Xiaomi still holds their top position in this field, Poco is in second place and iTel is in third place.

Data released in the IDC report also indicated that shipments to online channels grew 16 percent year-over-year (YoY) and rose 51 percent quarter-on-quarter. IDC noted in their report that Poco, Vivo and Motorola registered over 65 percent year-over-year shipment growth in the online channel.

Notably, Apple is number 6 in the overall list of smartphone vendors in India. They managed to capture 7.3 percent market share. According to IDC, Apple currently dominates the super-premium segment (over $800 or about Rs. 67,000), which has also seen the highest growth in the market.

The market price segment that also saw growth was the monthly budget (phones costing more than $100 or roughly Rs. 8,350 but less than $200 or Rs. 16,700), which accounted for 48% of the market share with 22% year-over-year growth. reached at Vivo, Xiaomi and Samsung were the top three brands in this segment. According to reports, Oppo and Realme have gained significant share in the entry-premium segment ($200/Tk 16,700 < $400/Tk 33,400).

However, the mid-premium segment ($400/Tk 33,400 < $600/Tk 50,100) saw a 46 percent decline. However, OnePlus leads this particular segment, followed by Vivo and Oppo. Overall, though, Poco is one of the two smartphone vendors with an impressive year-over-year growth of 72 percent. Motorola is the only vendor that has grown more than Poco, which is ranked ninth in the Indian market with 110 percent growth.
