Tata Motors continues to dominate the electric car market in India. However, in this regard, the largest manufacturer of passenger cars, Maruti Suzuki, is several steps behind. So far, the company has not launched a single battery-powered model in the market. They may launch the first EV model in 2024. Tata Motors, meanwhile, is planning to launch a new electric SUV coupe early next year based on its Curvv concept. Sources claim that both the cars will hit the market in 2024. Let’s take a closer look at both the models.
Maruti Suzuki EVX
Maruti Suzuki showcased the concept model of their eVX electric SUV at the Auto Expo this year. According to sources, the production version of the Maruti Suzuki eVX will be launched in 2024 during the festive season. In the country, the car rivals the Mahindra XUV400 and the upcoming Creta EV. Presumably, it may have a 60 kWh battery pack with LPF blade cells.
The design and development of the new EVX electric SUV will be based on the Born EV platform. At the time of unveiling, Maruti Suzuki said that their electric vehicle will have a range of 550 km. Their platform will also be used to bring cars in the future. Production of the Maruti Suzuki EVX will continue at Suzuki’s plant in Gujarat.
Tata Curvev EV
In April last year, Tata Motors took the wraps off its Curvv EV concept model. Again this year at the Auto Expo the company showcased the ICE version of the Curvv. The Curvv SUV Coupe is confirmed to be launched in 2024. The new SUV model will be offered in both IC and electric powertrain options.
The car will compete with Mahindra XUV400, MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona EV. It will be based on the second generation Gen-2 platform. This Gen-2 is a heavily modified version of the ALFA platform. It may have a huge battery that will provide a range of 500 km on a full charge.
