Semi-automatic gearbox for motorcycles. Courtesy Yamaha. As the first model from the Japanese company, the MT-09 bike is going to get Y-AMT (Yamaha Automatic Manual Transmission) technology. Now the question is, how will it work? This system consists of two electronic actuators, which replace the clutch lever and foot shifter. This means the rider will not need to manually shift gears when accelerating, braking, or stopping.
If the rider of the bike wants manual control, then there is a gear lever in the switch cube on the left side. Switchgear to the right of the handlebar can be used to toggle between three shifting modes — Automatic D, Automatic D+, and Manual. The option of manual gear change will be found by toggling plus and minus on the left hand switch cube.
Apart from this automatic gearbox, the USP of the new version of the Yamaha MT-09 naked sports bike will be the engine. Its 890 cc, three-cylinder engine produces 117.3 bhp at 10,000 rpm and 93 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. Available in both manual and Y-AMT variants. The carb weight of the latter is 3 kg more than the former (196 kg).
The new Yamaha MT-09 will go on sale in Japan later this year. However, it is unknown when this bike will be launched in India. Because there is less demand for premium and large capacity bikes in this country. The old version of the bike was once sold in India. But it was discontinued due to lack of demand.
