Xiaomi beats Apple to become the world’s third-biggest smartphone company in 2020

Xiaomi beats Apple in terms of smartphone shipments in the third quarter of this year to become the world’s third-biggest smartphone brand. The Chinese tech company has gathered a market share of 13.1 percent and 46.5 million shipments whereas the Cupertino giant shipped 41.6 million units and obtained a market share of 11.8%.

Recently, International Data Corporation (IDC) has published a report on smartphone shipments in the third quarter of this year, i.e. Q3 2020. As per the report, Approx 353.6 million smartphone units were shipped in the third quarter of this year, i.e. from July to September in which there is a decline of 1.3% in smartphone shipments due to the COVID-19 pandemic.


The report clearly shows that Xiaomi has now become the world’s third-biggest smartphone brand after surpassing Apple. As mentioned, The Chinese tech holds a total market share of around 13.6 percent with 46.5 million units shipments while the Cupertino giant only received a market share of 11.8% with 41.6 million units sold.


Samsung ranked in top position in the IDC report, The South Korean tech giant managed to ship 80.4 million units in Q3 2020 with a market share of 22.7%. The shipments specify a 2.9 percent growth for the company year-on-year.


Huawei holds the second position with shipments of 51.9 million units and gathering around 14.7 percent of the worldwide market. Though, the Chinese giant’s shipments declined by a huge 22 percent.
Lastly, Vivo ranked in the Fifth position with shipments of 31.5 million smartphone units and 8.9 percent of market share.
