Adani Data Networks and Vodafone Idea have applied to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) seeking an extension till August 16 to launch their 5G services. Vodafone Idea’s funding constraints are being cited by many as a possible reason for the delay. It may be noted that Adani Group is currently examining ways to deploy 5G network.
Vodafone Idea’s 5G service is going to be launched soon
Telecom Secretary, K Rajaraman recently said that a telecom company has requested to extend the minimum rollout period of 5G services, though he did not name any company. But needless to say, the Telecom Secretary is naming India’s third largest telecom company.
It may be noted that Adani Group acquired spectrum worth Tk 212 crore to launch 5G in six circles. But still he could not get the company working. On the other hand, telecom operators like Jio and Airtel have rolled out their 5G network services very quickly in different parts of the country.
Notably, Vodafone Idea is currently actively testing 5G services in cities like Delhi and Pune. The company has set up 36 tower sites in these areas for this pilot service. However, the telco’s commercial rollout of 5G services across the country now depends on placing orders with equipment manufacturers.
