Vigo Video App shut down in India confirmed by ByteDance, TikTok Parent Company. The company is directing both of the popular social platforms TikTok as well as Vigo. According to the latest reports, The reason behind shutting down Vigo App and its lite version Vigo lite in India as it didn’t get the same success as TikTok, which is quite popular in the country as well as globally.

Vigo Video App launched in India on the 13th of May 2019. It has 100 million-plus downloads on the play store. The App provides the same functionality as TikTok, there are so many similarities between these two Apps. Vigo app allows users to add special effects, stickers, and lip-sync music and more to make their short videos engaging and entertaining, which is similar to TikTok.


Now, The company finalized their decision to shut down Vigo Video App and Vigo lite, So Users will no longer able to download both of the apps from the play store and app store but existing users still have an option to port their data from Vigo to Tiktok before October 31, The company said in an in-app announcement. Apart from India, ByteDance already shut down Vigo Video and Vigo lite in Brazil and the Middle East.

According to TechCrunch report, TikTok has more than 200 million monthly active users in India, while Vigo has only 4 million monthly active users and Vigo lite could only gain up to 1.5 million monthly active users.


The company said that “By October 31st, 2020, Vigo Video will shut down in India while it has already shut operations in Brazil and the Middle East. Until then, users and creators are being given time to manage the transition. Users can export their content on to TikTok and continue with their creativity with a seamless experience on India’s leading short video sharing platform, giving them vast exposure and interactivity with a larger user base.”
