Gone are the days of worrying about spam calls and messages. Recently the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) came up with a new rule, after which spam messages and calls can be blocked. It is believed that once the new rules are in place, fraud will be reduced and telecom customers will be better protected.
TRAI's new rules are going to come into effect from September 1, 2024 i.e. from next month. The agency said that telecom companies can no longer send URLs, OTT links or call back requests to subscribers who are not registered on their network. Not only this, from now on the messages sent by the companies will be tracked and if they contain any fake links or callback requests, they will be blocked.
You can understand the company number just by looking at it
From September 30, 140 series numbers of telecom companies as well as other service providers will be covered by DLT i.e. distributed ledger technology. This will make it easy to identify company numbers and they can call from a specific series of numbers. TRAI has also asked telecom operators to install spam filters to block such calls and messages.
However, artificial intelligence (AI) based filters are yet to be implemented. Although the experiment has started with this. This filter will inform users about incoming calls from unknown numbers. Now Airtel has started using this tool and by the end of the year, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea (Vi) may start doing this.
