Chennai-based electric vehicle startup Raptee has announced the completion of its first electric two-wheeler manufacturing facility. The manufacturing facility is spread over 3 acres of land. The company’s research and development center will be housed within the factory.
Raptee will launch electric bikes this year
According to Rapti sources, if everything goes well, they will launch their first electric motorcycle in the country’s market by the end of this year. Rapti said that they have taken the investment target of 85 crore rupees in this factory. 1 lakh units of two-wheelers will be produced here annually. They are looking at the manufacturing center in Chennai as the base for the next two years.
The company claims that the factory will employ around 500 workers. A battery pack assembly line is also planned to be developed separately there. Earlier this year, Rapti received a grant of Rs 3.27 crore from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). Which was given under the ‘Advanced Mobility Transformation and Innovation Foundation’ by the Union Ministry of Heavy Industries.
Incidentally, there is currently a huge demand in the electric vehicle market, especially in the two-wheeler segment. A total of 1,04,755 units of battery-powered two-wheelers were sold in India last month. Whereas a year ago the sales volume was 66,724 units. As a result, there has been a 57% rise in sales this year. However, after reducing the subsidy in FEM-2 project in June, what effect on sales will be seen now.
