India's largest passenger car maker Maruti Suzuki is finally getting into the electric vehicle business. The Indo-Japanese company has confirmed that it will launch its first electric car in January 2025. They announced this at an event organized by SIAM in Delhi.
Maruti Suzuki EV will be launched in January 2025
Maruti Suzuki India Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Hisashi Takeuchi said today that they will launch a high-specification electric vehicle, which will offer a range of 500 km on a full charge. The vehicle will be powered by a 60 kWh battery pack.
Maruti Suzuki will export its first electric car to Europe and Japan. It will be a mid-size SUV, codenamed eVx. It has already been unveiled at various car shows. The price is expected to be above Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). The car will compete with the Tata Curvv.
