Last year saw the highest hybrid (petrol+battery) car sales in India so far. The amount of which was 19,556 units. Toyota is at the top in terms of sales. 57% of the market for such cars is held by the Japanese company. Next are Maruti and Honda. Now the market share of the two companies is 35% and 7% respectively. Toyota Hyryder currently holds the title of India’s top-selling hybrid car. Again, in the first quarter of 2023, the sales of hybrid cars in the country reached the maximum limit.
Toyota tops hybrid car sales
Currently Toyota’s best-selling car is the Innova Hycross. Last month the company sold a total of 7,776 units of Innova and Innova Hycross combined. Where Hyryder, Camry, and Vellfire sold 3,090 units, 142 units and 5 models respectively. Again in May the sales of Maruti Suzuki Grand Viatara reached 8,877 units. And Honda City sedan sold 1,532 units.
Toyota is bringing another new car with hybrid technology
Now the top four selling hybrid cars in India are – Toyota Innova Hycross, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyrider and Honda City. Meanwhile, Toyota is mulling a new 7-seater SUV. It will be based on the Corolla Cross. Mahindra XUV700 and Jeep Meridian will be launched to compete. The car can be offered with a 2.0 liter regular petrol engine and a 2.0 liter strong hybrid powertrain.
Incidentally, Maruti Suzuki has started preparations for the launch of a Strong Hybrid Multipurpose Vehicle or MPV on July 10. Which is the rebadged version of Toyota Innova Hycross. However, the design of the upcoming model will see some minor changes. Also, the Indo Japanese company is planning to launch new generation Swift and Dzire with strong hybrid technology. The cars could hit the market in 2024.
