Suzuki has announced a recall of a large number of scooters and some bikes due to mechanical defects. The Japanese company has recalled the Access 125, Avinis 125, and Bergmann 125 sold in India. Models of scooters manufactured between April 30 and December 3, 2022 are feared to have a faulty high-tension cord, which is installed in the ignition coil.
Suzuki said that since the high-tension cord is installed on the ignition coil without meeting drawing requirements (NG), it may repeatedly bend or break due to engine noise. This can result in engine stalling or starting problems. Also, the broken cord can damage the vehicle's speed sensor and throttle position sensor if exposed to water.
Suzuki's recall order lists 2,63,788 units of the Access 125, 52,578 units of the Avinis, and 72,025 units of the Bergman 125. That is, the number of damaged scooters is 3,88,391. The company has never previously called for so many models to be recalled at once. Suzuki has already asked affected owners to visit their nearest service center to get the faulty part replaced.
Incidentally, Suzuki has also announced the recall of their V-Storm 800DE bikes in India, which are manufactured between 5th May 2023 and 23rd April 2024. This is an international recall and the number of affected models in India is 67. It is reported that there is a problem with the rear tire of the bike. It will replace the organization with a new one.
