Popular messaging app Signal has been accused of breaking rules in the 'anti-terror campaign'. Russia's state communications watchdog Roskomnadzor said the encrypted messaging app Signal was blocked in the country for violating anti-terrorism laws.
Before Roskomnadzor took this step, hundreds of Signal users reported bugs in the app. Note that more than 1 million people use the Signal app in Russia. Internet service monitoring sites received more than 1,500 complaints about the signal, most of which reportedly came from users in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
But not all users are happy with app blocking. They say there is no problem running the Signal app by logging in with a VPN or using censorship bypass mode. Meanwhile, Mikhail Klimarev, owner of the Telegram Channel for Telecom, told Reuters, “This actually indicates a Messenger block in Russia, not a signal problem.”
However, Signal has not yet made any statement in this regard. Users in Moscow and Krasnodar Territory reported that they could not create an account on Signal without a VPN. It is reported that there is a server problem while entering the mobile number.
