Samsung is going to offer Google Messages app by default for SMS service, replacing its own messaging app. But why?
While working on Google's Android front, Samsung itself used to offer different components like processor, camera and services like gallery, messaging app, dialer app in the brand's mobile handsets. But this time, the popular South Korean company has decided to work more openly with another world-renowned tech company. In fact, Samsung recently announced that it will now offer the Google Messages app as the default RCS/SMS app in the US – meaning the brand's Galaxy phones will no longer have Samsung's own Samsung Messages app pre-installed.
Why is Samsung message app replaced?
As per the company's announcement, the Samsung Messages app will no longer appear on the upcoming smartphones, starting with the latest Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 smartphones – instead it will be replaced by the Google Messages app. On the other hand, this change will not be limited only to the US currency. A Samsung spokesperson told Android Authority that the update will currently be limited to the US market, but they are looking forward to rolling it out in the coming months.
That is, it can be assumed that the changes related to Samsung's messaging services will be effective in India and other markets of the world in the coming days. However, the Samsung Messages app can be used at will. Users can download it from Galaxy Store.
Incidentally, Samsung and Google have previously worked closely together on communication services. This joint effort to make Google Messages the default and common messaging platform for the brand's Android mobile ecosystem will further enhance the adoption of Rich Communication Service (RCS) and provide the best experience for Galaxy users.
Although this move by Samsung is not entirely new, in 2022, Samsung made its debut in the world of rich communication services with the Galaxy S22 handset series.
For those who don't know, RCS is the modern version of the messaging standard that replaces the traditional SMS service to exchange messages over the Internet. Not only that it offers features like media sharing, voice note share, typing indicator etc. in high-quality.
