Royal Enfield launched the new generation Himalayan in November last year. It was the first bike in the company's history to debut with a 452 cc liquid cooled engine. The name of this new engine is Sherpa. Last month, the Gorilla 450, based on the platform of the new generation Himalayan, entered India. It also uses a single cylinder Sherpa engine. Now, a company official has hinted that they are planning to launch some more new bikes with the 452cc Sherpa engine.
Royal Enfield will bring more 450 cc bikes
In an interview with an international press, Royal Enfield's Chief of Design, Mark Wells said, “Look at it, you can do a thousand cool things with it. If riding a Himalayan adventure tourer, a supermoto bike on it would be great. Or who can say, a sports bike can do great work on Gorilla.”
Note that Royal Enfield is known for manufacturing multiple motorcycles based on one platform. For example, the J series engine is present in the Classic, Hunter, Bullet and Meteor. That is, every 350 cc bike has the same engine. Again the same parallel twin engine is used in 650 cc bikes like Shotgun, Super Meteor, Interceptor, and Continental GT. As a result, it will not be surprising if there are more motorcycles on the Himalayan platform.
The news of the possibility of a motocross or sports bike launch is enough to raise the excitement of Royal Enfield fans. But this is only at the negotiation level. No information has been released as to when the company might bring such a motorcycle to the market. Coming to the current context, the updated version of the Classic 350 will be launched in India on August 12. Several new features are going to be added to it.
