Renault-Nissan has recently announced the milestone of reaching 25 lakh vehicles at its Chennai plant. At the same time, the company said that the factory will make two new electric cars. The alliance of the two companies also revealed plans to build six new cars there.
Renault-Nissan to bring two electric cars to India
At the moment, the company has not given any message about which model of electric car will be launched in the Indian market. But as we know, currently they sell the electric version of Kwid in the international market. Its name is Dacia Spring. The single electric motor present in the base variant of the car produces 44 hp of power. It is claimed to be able to travel 230 kilometers on a full charge. When launched in India, it will compete against Tata Tiago EV, MG Comet and Citroen eC3.
What the second electric model will be, cannot be said right now. Incidentally, last year Nissan showcased their three new SUVs in India. These are – X-Trail, Qashqai and Juke. The company has confirmed that the X-Trail model will be launched in the country. However, there is no word yet on the launch of Qashqai and Juke.
The Qashqai will compete with the likes of Hyundai Tucson, Citroen C5 Aircross and Jeep Compass in the Indian market. On the other hand, Juke has rivals like – Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Meanwhile, the X-Trail is a full-size SUV. Its competing models in the market are – MG Gloster and Toyota Fortuner. It is assumed that Nissan will import the foreign-made model and sell it in India.
