PM WANI Wi-Fi Scheme: Internet has now become an important part of daily life in India. Affordable broadband and mobile data services from telecom companies like Jio, Airtel have brought high-speed internet access to virtually every corner of the country. Again, unfortunately for those who cannot afford the internet data plans offered by these telecom companies, the central government is providing PM-WANI service to keep them ahead of the times. In this case, Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced a new scheme for this PM-WANI service during the current Lok Sabha elections.
PM-WANI: 2 lakh data hotspots set up, cheap internet will be available
Prime Minister Modi launched 'PM-WANI' or Prime Minister Wi-Fi Access Network Interface in December 2020, keeping in mind those who cannot afford the existing internet recharge plans offered by leading telecom service providers in the country. In that case now a new scheme of this service has been introduced, through which the people of India will be provided with attractive internet services at a nominal price.
In fact, the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) and C-DOT have come together to create more than 1,99,896 or nearly 2 lakh public Wi-Fi hotspots across the country in the wake of the Digital India Mission announced by Modiji. Those who cannot recharge their internet plan through these public Wi-Fi hotspots will be able to access internet anytime across India without any SIM card.
Note that PDOs i.e. Public Data Offices under the PM-Wani (read Vani) scheme are already available at public places like railway stations, banks, post offices, grocery stores, schools, libraries etc.
How to use internet through PM-WANI scheme?
1. To use internet through PM-WANI you first need to install 'Data PM-WANI' app on smartphone. Note, this application cannot be accessed on feature phones.
2. Once this PM-Wani app is installed, you can connect to the nearest Wi-Fi POD office through it.
3. Next step you need to recharge to use app data. In this case, you can choose the price plan from 6 to 99 rupees.
PM-WANI Plans Price and Benefits
