The revenues of telecom companies have declined in the last few years. There are many reasons behind this. But one of the reasons is the most important. And that is, the number of calls and messages has decreased in the last few years. Earlier people used to make many voice calls from mobiles. At the same time they used to send messages if necessary. But internet calling and instant message services have now won the hearts of people. As a result, telecom companies are facing losses.
Why has the number of calls and messages reduced?
Due to apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, people now use internet calling instead of normal calling or messaging on mobile. It only uses phone internet. Internet calling and messaging are also done with the help of Wi-Fi.
Data usage has increased
According to a Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) report, telecom companies’ revenue from voice calls has fallen by nearly 80 percent. Also, the revenue of sending SMS has decreased by up to 94 percent.
But in the last 10 years, revenue from data usage has increased almost 10 times. People are using over the top i.e. OTT services in large numbers. Due to this, the data cost has been increased by the customers.
