Huawei Mate X2 is the third foldable smartphone from Huawei. The company’s previous Foldable models Mate X and Mate Xs both feature an outward foldable screen but the new Mate X2 patent suggests an inward foldable screen similar to the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2.
As per the report, Huawei filed a patent for the foldable device in 2019 with the CNIPA and the patent got approved on 25th September 2020 and arrives with 32 product schematics, sketches, and more. These images suggest that Huawei Mate X2 features a foldable design and has two displays, a large primary display along with an external smaller screen as well.
The primary display or the outer display when the device is folded features a dual punch-hole selfie camera on the front. For more multi-tasking purposes the inner larger display can be used. The hinge mechanism used is bending inward, which is quite different from the company’s previous foldable smartphone offerings. The rear camera design of Huawei Mate X2 resembles the Huawei P40 Pro+, although, the camera sensors’ information is not known yet, a periscopic zoom lens also be found on the back.
As seen from the top view of the device, Huawei Mate X2 gets thinner when we move away from the rear camera portion to the primary display side of the device. It seems that when the phone is unfolded the phone is thicker at the rear camera side. But this asymmetric composition may affect the device weight distribution and overall in-hand feel of the device. The questions become more clear when the device will launch and we will get hands-on to the device.
