Currently, most of the road accidents that occur in the country are motorcyclists. Majority of the bikers and co-passengers do not have helmets on their heads, causing severe brain injuries and death.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has therefore suggested to two-wheeler manufacturers that they should provide helmets at a discounted or reasonable rate to the buyer. Because many people die in road accidents due to not wearing a helmet.
At an event in New Delhi, Gadkari highlighted the issue, saying that 50,029 people will die in road accidents in 2022 due to not wearing helmets alone. He suggested that manufacturers can play an important role in saving lives as well as increasing road safety by providing affordable helmets with low-cost two-wheelers.
Also, the Union Minister is also expressing his dream of establishing driving schools in every taluk across the country. He informed that initiatives have been taken to increase road safety and make drivers more proficient in driving. According to a report by the Ministry of Health, road accidents are a major cause of unintentional injuries.

Steelbird Company MD and Helmet Manufacturing Association President Rajeev Kapoor said, “We wholeheartedly welcome this decision. But it is very important to mention, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRT&H) has already made it mandatory for two-wheeler manufacturers to supply free helmets with every motorcycle. To meet the target of reducing accidents by 50% by 2030, it is essential to have two helmets with every bike at no additional cost. As a result, deaths due to road accidents will be significantly reduced.”
