Nowadays every smartphone comes with a fixed warranty period, usually lasting one to two years. During this period the repair of any hardware and software related problems does not require any additional cost to the user, this service is provided free of charge by the company. Some brands also offer the option to purchase an extended warranty for their devices, but it’s hard to find companies that offer free service. But this time popular smartphone brand Xiaomi has set a precedent by announcing a two-year warranty extension for select phones in India. However, users have to fulfill certain conditions to get this benefit. Let’s get into this in detail.
On the other hand, Xiaomi’s phones will now get a conditional two-year extended warranty
Xiaomi quietly announced on its social messaging platform, Discord, that select older phones will now get a two-year extended warranty. These devices are Redmi Note 10 Pro, Redmi Note 10 Pro Max, Mi 11 Ultra and Poco X3 Pro. Note however, that not all units of these models will receive this extension. If a user is currently facing selfie camera or motherboard issues, only Xiaomi will provide them with the benefits of this extended warranty.
Notably, the decision was publicly announced during a fan meet organized by Xiaomi India’s feedback team. Senior executives including Muralikrishnan B, President, Xiaomi India, Anuj Sharma, Chief Marketing Officer, and Alvin Say, Vice President, Xiaomi Global, were present at the event. The meetup was hosted on the Xiaomi Insiders Discord server, which provides users with an opportunity to share their feedback on Xiaomi devices.
Notably, GSMArena has mentioned in a report that Xiaomi may have identified some potential issues with certain phones and components and is now working to resolve these issues. However, the company has not yet mentioned these conditions in their warranty information pages.
