Pixel 9 Pro Fold: Google's first foldable smartphone launched in India by shaking the market

The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold smartphone was launched for the global market including India at this year's Made by Google hardware launch event organized by Google yesterday. Although the handset is the company's second Pixel-branded foldable phone, it is Google's first folding handset to debut in India. This year, the US company launched four Google Pixel 9 series handsets in the country and all models are powered by the company's Tensor G4 chipset. Besides, the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold phone has an OLED inner display, a 4,650 mAh battery with 45W fast charging support, a triple rear camera setup with a 48-megapixel primary camera. Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold Price and Availability in India

The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold phone has been priced at Rs 1,72,999 in India and this handset will be available only in the 16GB RAM + 256GB storage configuration in the country. It can be chosen in obsidian and porcelain color options.

Notably, the newly unveiled Google Pixel 9 lineup will be available not only on Flipkart, but also on Croma and Reliance Digital retail outlets. Google has announced that the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold will go on sale in India from August 22. Customers can purchase the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold from Google's own walk-in centers in Delhi and Bengaluru. It will be available in Mumbai in future.

Specifications and features of the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold handset

The newly launched Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold is a dual-SIM (nano+eSIM) handset. It is powered by Google's Tensor G4 chipset and Titan M2 security processor, paired with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold runs on Android 14 operating system and the company claims that it will receive seven years of Android OS, security patches and Pixel Drop updates.

On the inside, the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold phone features an 8-inch (2,076×2,152 pixels) LTPO OLED Super Actual Flex Inner screen, which offers a 120 Hz refresh rate and up to 2,700 nits of peak brightness. On the outside of the device is a 6.3-inch (1,080×2,424 pixels) OLED display, which offers a 120Hz refresh rate, Gorilla Glass 2 protection and the same high brightness level as the inner screen.

For photography, the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold model has a 48-megapixel wide-angle camera with f/1.7 aperture, a 10.5-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with autofocus and f/2.2 aperture and up to 5x optical zoom, 20x Super Res. A 10.8-megapixel telephoto camera with zoom, and f/3.1 aperture is present. Both wide and telephoto cameras have optical and electronic image stabilization.

For selfies, the cover displays a 10-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture, while the inner screen houses a 10-megapixel camera with the same aperture. The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold offers several camera and editing features that are only available on Google phones. These include Add Me, Hands-Free Astrophotography, Face Unblur, Top Shot, Frequent Face, Video Boost, Wind Noise Reduction, Audio Magic Eraser, Macro Focus Video, Made You Look, and Magic Editor.

Users in India will get 256GB of in-built storage on the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold phone, while customers in the US and other regions can also opt for a 512GB variant. Connectivity options of the device include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, Near Field Communication, GPS, Ultra-Wideband (UWB) and USB 3.2 Type-C port. Its onboard sensors include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, e-compass, barometer and proximity sensor.

For power backup, the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold phone has a 4,650mAh battery, which can be charged using a PPS charger (45W), as well as a Qi wireless charger. It supports face and fingerprint-based biometric authentication and the phone has an IPX8 rating for water resistance.
