OnePlus’ first foldable smartphone has been the talk of the tech world for the past few months. Every day the topic of the phone is coming up in the news. The company has gone a long way in working on the device and even hinted at the official name in the teaser. The OnePlus Open folding phone was rumored to be launched on August 29. Sources claim that it has now been delayed. A tipster said the launch was delayed for ‘good reasons’. The company decided to change the display of OnePlus Open at the last moment. OnePlus will use a display panel made by a South Korean display manufacturer instead of a Chinese manufacturer.
OnePlus Open phone will use Samsung display instead of BOE
Max Jambor Claims that OnePlus has delayed the launch of its first foldable phone. The reason behind this delay is that the company decided to test displays made by Samsung instead of panels from China’s famous display manufacturer, BOE, at the OnePlus Open. The tipster indicated that the BOE panel failed to meet the company’s expected benchmarks, while Samsung’s displays are generally known to be better. So, for those who are waiting for the OnePlus foldable, this can be a good news for them.
The OnePlus Open is expected to be a book-style foldable, much like the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. Initially, it was rumored to launch on August 29, but now the date has been pushed back. It is expected to debut between September and November. If this information is true, then the OnePlus Open phone is likely to be a rebranded version of its sister brand Oppo’s Find N3, which is said to be launched in China this month.
Several reports have already revealed that the folding phone will feature a 6.3-inch AMOLED cover display, which will offer FullHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Inside will be a 7.8-inch foldable AMOLED display with QuadHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. It’s likely to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset won’t launch before October. And for power backup, the phone is expected to have a 4,805mAh capacity battery with 67W fast charging and 50W wireless charging support. It will run on OxygenOS Fold software version based on Android 13 operating system.
