Ending the long speculation, HMD has finally launched their much awaited HMD Skyline smartphone. As expected, the device takes design inspiration from Nokia Lumia's Fabula design language. The HMD Skyline takes design inspiration from Nokia's Fabula design, with rounded sides and square edges. On the front of the phone is a 6.5-inch OLED display with Full-HD+ resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. And the phone's screen has a punch-hole cutout, housing a 50-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies.
The HMD Skyline will run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7S Gen 2 chipset, paired with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage. It will have a microSD card slot, which can be further expanded up to 512 GB.
For photography, the phone has a triple camera setup on the back, which includes a 108-megapixel primary sensor, a 13-megapixel ultrawide lens and a 50-megapixel telephoto lens, which offers up to 4x zoom. It also features HMD's AI Capture Fusion technology, which will offer details in photos.
For power backup, the HMD Skyline model has a 4,600mAh battery, which supports 33W wired charging and 15W magnetic QI2 wireless charging. However, the retail box of this HMD phone does not include a compatible adapter. Buyers will have to purchase a 33W wall charger for an additional £30 (approx. The phone runs on Android 14 operating system and is promised to receive two major OS updates and three years of security patches. For those looking for a 'digital detox', it has a “detox mode” to limit notifications and social media access, and a customizable button on the side for quick access to favorite apps and features.
A notable feature of the HMD Skyline is that it is user repairable. HMD claims the device can be repaired in ten minutes thanks to its “Gen 2 repairability” design. Users can easily replace components such as the screen, battery and charging port using the standard iFixit kit. Its spare parts are available directly from HMD.
