Artificial Intelligence is all over the world now. Smartphone manufacturers are not behind in this regard. Many smartphones launched in recent times therefore offer advanced AI-based features. A popular market research firm has outlined how much market share these discarded phones have captured among consumers and how much more their popularity is likely to grow in the future.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a very important aspect of modern technology industry. In today's era, the impact of AI is very noticeable in every field. New AI based gadgets are also coming in the market. Manufacturers are also adding AI features to improve traditional electronics. Lately leading smartphone manufacturers have started integrating AI into their devices and these have also become quite popular among consumers. Now a well-known market research firm has published a report, which shows the current market share of smartphones with major AI capabilities and predicts how it will change in the next few years.
Smartphone makers are putting more emphasis on AI-enabled phones
Market research firm Canalys revealed in their report that 16% of smartphones launched in the global market today already integrate at least some form of AI capabilities and this is expected to reach 54% by 2028. Industry analysts say that the AI-enabled smartphone market will grow at a CAGR of 63% between 2023 and 2028. This is expected to be driven by customer demand for advanced features such as AI assistants and edge-to-edge processing.
Market research firm Canalys expects the change to appear on flagship models first. Currently there are obvious technical limitations in various areas, so on-device models can only run on high-end devices. However, the models are expected to become more efficient over time and gradually expand into the mid-range segment.
According to the market research firm, the transformative potential of phones with generative AI capabilities powered by AI technology will usher in a new era for the smartphone industry. Over the next three to five years, the addition of AI is expected to significantly improve the user experience. Motorola President and Senior Vice President of Lenovo Mobile Business, Sergio Buniak, also mentioned the same while sharing his vision for Motorola's smartphone business.
Companies like Google and Samsung have already integrated a bunch of artificial intelligence-based features into their latest flagships, however, no company has yet launched a smartphone with 'AI Phone' or similar branding. Various Chinese smartphone makers including Huawei, Honor, Oppo, Xiaomi and Vivo are constantly working to include as many AI features as possible in their high-end products. The approach they've taken to add generative AI capabilities to devices includes everything from building purpose-built in-house chips to training models.
