Popular Taiwanese chipset maker, MediaTek has quietly launched the Helio G91 chipset today. It is the upgraded version of MediaTek Helio G88, which was launched three years ago This new processor is designed to enhance the performance and capabilities of budget smartphones. The MediaTek Helio G91 chip supports a 90Hz FullHD+ display and a primary camera of up to 108 megapixels. Incidentally, the predecessor only supported up to 64 megapixels for the main camera. Let’s know about this new MediaTek processor in detail.
MediaTek Helio G91 chipset launched
The MediaTek Helio G91’s octa-core CPU configuration includes two ARM Cortex-A75 cores clocked at a maximum speed of 2.0GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.8GHz for efficiency. This chipset is coupled with a 1.0 GHz ARM Mali-G52 MC2 GPU for graphics. This setup is similar to the Helio G88, striking a balance between performance and power efficiency. This processor has support for up to 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, as well as eMMC 5.1 storage.
One of the notable features of the MediaTek Helio G91 is the improved camera support. The chipset will enable the devices to use a 108-megapixel sensor, promising clearer and more detailed photographs in various lighting conditions. The in-sensor zoom capability, supported by 2.0 micrometer pixel binning, aims to improve low-light performance and deliver perfect portrait shots with fine details. In addition, MediaTek has included multiple hardware accelerators to support Dual Camera Bokeh, Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) and Rolling Shutter Compensation (RSC) for enhanced photography in this processor.
In addition, Helio G91 also features MediaTek’s HyperEngine Gaming technology, designed to optimize performance across CPU, GPU and memory based on real-time power, thermal and gameplay factors. It ensures sustained performance and smooth gameplay. The chipset supports dual 4G VoLTE, as well as Wi-Fi 5. For those who drive, the MediaTek Dimensity G91 processor has inertial navigation engine to track exact location anywhere without GPS service and voice wakeup capability for hands-free control.
