With India’s 5G network roll-out moving at a rapid pace, shipments of 5G smartphones from the country crossed 100 crore (100 million) units in May, setting a record. This is what IANS was told by market intelligence firm CyberMedia Research (CMR).
They also said that shipments of 5G smartphones have increased more than 28 times since the launch of the 5G network. Samsung, OnePlus, and Vivo have collectively captured 60 percent of the 5G market share.
Shipra Sinha, CMR, Industry Intelligence Group, told IANS, “5G shipments accounted for 48% of the smartphone market in May, with Samsung leading followed by OnePlus and Vivo. And these three brands together have captured 60 percent 5G market share. “
As 5G services are now reaching most parts of India, the 5G smartphone market is expected to grow by around 70 percent by the end of this year.
Since 2020, smartphone market shipments in India have increased by 13 times, creating a record. Note that in 2022, around 100 5G smartphones were launched in the Indian market.
Earlier, a report by CMR said that the sales of 5G smartphones in India will increase only when 5G smartphones are available for less than 10 thousand rupees. And companies are slowly doing just that. As a result, sales are increasing manifold. Note that Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel launched 5G services in India in October 2022.
