The Mahindra Thar SUV has caught everyone's attention at a time when the demand for diesel passenger cars in India has hit rock bottom. Contrary to tradition, its diesel variant is selling well. New feat of Mahindra Thar Diesel version
Last month, the Mahindra Thar SUV with diesel engine became the traveling companion of a total of 5,277 buyers. Whereas its petrol version sold 543 units. As a result, you can understand where the popularity of the diesel version has stopped. In comparison, the petrol and diesel versions of the Thar sold 1,106 units and 3,190 units respectively during the same period last year.
According to Mahindra sources, in May this year they produced 5,224 units of diesel and 482 units of petrol model of Thar. Whereas Mahindra Thar SUV produced 1,061 units of diesel and 2,512 units of petrol model in May last year. Within a year, the demand for the diesel version has increased tremendously.
Incidentally, Mahindra is currently making the Thar 5-door version. This year, the model will be launched in the market on August 15, Independence Day. Maruti Suzuki will go head-to-head with the Jimny 5-door at launch. The fact that the five-door version will have relatively more space inside the car, does not wait to be said. There will be no major design changes with the three-door model.
As for the power source, the Mahindra Thar 5-door model is expected to come with both petrol and diesel engines. The 1.5 liter diesel engine produces a maximum power of 117 bhp and 300 Nm of torque. Again it can come in 2.2 liter diesel and 2.0 liter turbo charged petrol engine options. This engine is used in Mahindra Scorpio N. The car can be chosen with both manual and automatic transmission options.
