From now on, even if the power goes out, the users of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited or BSNL will not have to suffer from network problems. Naveen Gupta, General Manager of the company, said this in a report of The Hindu. And for this, the state-run telecom operator has also started replacing batteries and power plants at base power stations (BTSs).
Gupta also said that BSNL has already replaced batteries in 150 out of 450 plants in DKDP. And they are expected to replace the rest of the batteries within the next year. Also, solar panels will be used to charge batteries at 62 new sites to meet future electricity demand.
Gupta said BSNL's Mangaluru business area consists of UDP, South Kannada and North Kannada. There are 1,650 copper broadband connections, 15,371 copper landline connections, 25,170 FTTH connections, 1,734 mobile connections and 4.6 lakh mobile connections. Also, there is an optical fiber cable network stretching up to 4,200 km.
Let it be known that BSNL handles around 21 TB of data load on their networks every day in the region. And there are 539 2G towers, 407 3G towers and 161 4G towers in this region. Note that the telco has said that they will upgrade most of the towers here to 4G using indigenous technology in the coming days.
Also, BSNL is also planning to launch 4G in the rest of the country. So as part of the promotional offer they have also started providing free SIM cards to the customers. SIMs that will also work as 5G SIMs in the future. Needless to say, every 4G tower of BSNL is upgradeable to 5G. However, according to the company, users will not get these benefits right away, they will have to wait for a few more months.
