Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is set to launch 5G network in Makar Sankranti 2025. BSNL's Andhra Pradesh branch Principal General Manager L Srinu informed this news. In a press conference, Srinu confirmed that BSNL has already started upgrading towers and other equipment, according to a report in The Hindu. Note that the 4G stack that the government telecom company is acquiring from TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) is upgradable to 5G. So BSNL will not have to struggle to roll out 5G in India.
BSNL 5G service to be launched on Makar Sankranti 2025
Initially the state-owned telecom operator will offer 5G NSA (non-standalone) services in 4G regions. 4G launch is currently underway in all regions of the country. The telco is reportedly aiming to roll out 1 lakh 4G sites before the end of the 2024-25 financial year. BSNL has launched 25,000 sites so far and is in the process of rolling out more sites. Like 4G, the 5G launch is expected to happen in phases.
Apart from this Srinu confirmed that BSNL is working on a new project called 'Everywhere Wi-Fi'. Under this scheme, the company aims to enable customers to get Wi-Fi access even after moving from one place to another. Since BSNL's fiber service has an all-India presence, it will become easier for the company to implement this.
However, many customers are currently looking forward to using BSNL's 4G services, meanwhile, if the telecom operator's officials confirm the news of the 5G launch, the interest is only expected to double. Now to see BSNL can't really launch 5G in January 2025 i.e. Makar Sankranti.
