Triumph recently launched their cheapest roadster motorcycle Speed 400 in India. This two-wheeler of the British company has been jointly developed in this country with Bajaj Auto. The bike has received a huge response within a few days of its launch. It is priced at Rs 2.33 lakh (ex-showroom). However, Triumph and Bajaj are offering the first 10,000 buyers a chance to buy it for Rs 2.23 lakh. Meanwhile, there is a motorcycle in Bajaj portfolio at almost the same price – Bajaj Dominar 400. This report highlights the comparison between the two bikes.
Triumph Speed 400 vs Bajaj Dominar 400 : Design
The two bikes are completely different in terms of design and race. Triumph Speed 400 is a retro style roadster bike. The muscle bike largely follows the Speed Twin 1200 in terms of philosophy. It has a circular LED headlight. Bajaj Dominar 400 on the other hand is a bulky sports tourer model. This is a sharp design motorbike.
Triumph Speed 400 vs Bajaj Dominar 400 : Engine
The Speed 400 is powered by a brand new 398 cc, single cylinder engine. From which 40 PS of power and 37.5 Nm of torque are available. The motor is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with slip and assist clutch. It features ride-by-wire, switchable traction control and dual-channel ABS.
Meanwhile, the Dominar 400 is powered by a KTM engine. Its 373 cc, single cylinder, liquid cooled motor produces a maximum power of 40 PS and 35 Nm of torque. It also has a 6-speed gearbox with slip and assist clutch.
Triumph Speed 400 vs Bajaj Dominar 400 : Hardware
The Speed 400 features premium hardware. Like – 43mm big piston USD fork, and preload adjustable gas charged monoshock. 300 mm front and 230 mm rear disc brakes are present to handle the braking duties. It has dual channel ABS. Its carb weight is 176 kg.
On the other hand, the Dominar 400 also features USD front fork and preload adjustable gas charged monoshock. However, it gets 320mm front and 230mm rear disc brakes with dual channel ABS. Its carb weight is 193 kg.
Triumph Speed 400 vs Bajaj Dominar 400: Features and Price
The Triumph Speed 400 has a semi digital console, while the Bajaj Dominar 400 features a full digital console. Although both the display consoles will show the same information – speedometer, tachometer, gear position indicator etc. However, both lack smartphone connectivity and navigation.
The Speed 400 is priced at Rs 2.33 lakh (ex-showroom). Again the first 10,000 buyers are being given the opportunity to buy it for Rs 2.23 lakh. Whereas the Dominar 400 is priced at Rs 2.29 lakh (ex-showroom). Needless to say, the Speed 400 model is the value-for-money bike for the price. At the same time, there is the importance and royalty of the Triumph name.
