Instagram Reels could launch in India soon, the company wants to take advantage of the Tiktok ban in India. Instagram already start testing Reels in India, it is a separate platform that comes within Instagram. Likewise Tiktok, Instagram Reels allows users to create a maximum of 15 seconds of video, add music to their videos, and more.


Instagram Reels currently in the Testing phase in India. According to the latest report, A Facebook spokesperson said “We are planning to start testing an updated version of Reels in more countries. Reels is a fun, creative way for people to both express themselves and be entertained. We’re excited to bring this new version to more of our global community,” Some users have started receiving the Reels update from Instagram.

Facebook shut down Lasso

Instagram ready to launch its short video platform named Reels in India, while Facebook is shutting down its app called Lasso, which has the same functionality as Tiktok. Facebook introduced lasso back in 2018 to compete with Tiktok in a short video platform but it does not gain much popularity as Tiktok. So, the company has decided to shut down lasso across the Globe and shifts its focus to Instagram Reels.


Facebook warned lasso users through app notification “Lasso is shutting down on July 10, 2020. The App will not be usable after that date,” said in-App notification. Lasso still allows users to save their videos before the 10th of July.

What is Instagram Reels?


As mentioned earlier, Reels is a short video platform that comes within Instagram. It comes with video editing features that let users record and edit videos, similar to Tiktok. Users can post Reel video to their Instagram stories, Send via DM, and post to a new section of the explorer tab called Top Reels. According to reports, the features already launched in Brazil Last year.


Tiktok parent company “ByteDance”, may lose Rs 45000 crores because of the Indian government’s decision to ban the 59 Chinese apps. ByteDance owns three of the apps Tiktok, Helo, and Vigo on the list.
