Twitter account hacked including Bill Gates, Barack Obama, Elon Musk, and other high profile accounts Hacked in Bitcoin Scam. Twitter has temporarily freeze access to all verified accounts. The Hackers have already collected donation whopping of Rs. 89 lakhs through this scam. Most of the donation has reportedly come from the US, a quarter from Europe, and remainder from Asia.
Twitter Account Hacked: What happened?
The official Twitter Accounts of former US President Barack Obama, Kanye West and his wife Kim Kardashian, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, World Richest person and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, media tycoon Mike Bloomberg, along with major brands such as Apple and Uber, were among many others became the victim of this hack. These accounts sent out tweets trying to cheat people by donating money in Bitcoin cryptocurrency. Twitter had briefly blocked access to all verified accounts and is presently investigating the issue.
According to reports, these messages were asking people to donate Bitcoins and promising double returns but twitter has removed all such posts. Hackers post a tweet from Bill Gates’s account in which they said “Everyone is asking me to give back. You send $1,000, I send you back $2,000,” a similar message was posted from several other prominent accounts as well.
The Bitcoin Addresses mentioned by hackers seemingly belonged to an organization called CryptoForHealth. According to a BBC report, the web address where some of the tweets redirected users to was registered by a cyber-attacker with the email address ‘mkworth5@gmail.com’ and the profile name Anthony Elias. The report also clear that CryptoForHealth is a registered handle on Instagram too.
Twitter’s Response
Twitter said it was investigating the matter and taking actions to fix it. The company has temporarily freeze access to all verified accounts. Twitter revealed that most of the accounts have now been restored. While some accounts are still locked by Twitter and access will be restored to the original account owner when things are secure.

Twitter also revealed hackers targeted some of its workers who have access to internal systems and tools. This hack was a result of a “coordinated social engineering attack”. The latest reports said Twitter insider was responsible for the twitter account hacked and it was paid for the task as well.
“We know they used this access to take control of numerous highly-visible accounts and Tweet on their behalf. We’re looking into what other malicious activity they may have performed or data they may have access,” said Twitter Officials.
“Internally, we’ve taken significant steps to limit access to internal systems and tools while our investigation is ongoing,” they added.
Hackers have already received 373 transactions through the Twitter account hacked, they collected 12.86252562 Bitcoins which is equivalent to over $118,300 (roughly Rs. 89 lakhs). They want to make the most money as much as possible. What are your views on the Twitter account hacked?
