Amazon Drone Delivery Gets Approval From US FAA

Amazon Drone Delivery gets a green signal from the US Federal Aviation Administration. It is looking like a nightmare to get an Amazon order via a Drone from the sky but now it is close to reality. Amazon Drone Delivery will be named as Amazon Prime Air.

The e-commerce giant has been working on Amazon drone delivery service for years, due to regulatory hurdles it is slowed down. Once Amazon CEO and founder Jeff Bezos said in a TV interview that drones would be flying to deliver packages to customer’s homes within five years in 2013.

Last year, Amazon unveiled self-piloting drones that are fully electric, can carry five pounds of goods very easily, and are designed to deliver items within 30 minutes by dropping them in a backyard. At the time, an Amazon executive said deliveries to buyers will start soon “within months,” but more than 14 months have passed since then.

Amazon has a few different types of drones optimized for different types of deliveries. Some drones are different in battery capacity for distant deliveries, some are different in design so as to carry each and every type of goods, some are water repellent for weather changes and more. The newest model can fly as fast as 15 miles per hour and deliver packages of up to 5 pounds and the newest model is closest to the final Amazon Prime Air Drone.

Now the company is testing Amazon Drone Delivery in five different countries with different designs and delivery mechanisms. ” The look and characteristics of the drones will continue to evolve over time, ” Amazon Prime Website says.

This certification is an important step forward for Prime Air and indicates the FAA’s confidence in Amazon’s operating and safety procedures for an autonomous drone delivery service that will one day deliver packages to our customers around the world,” David Carbon, vice president of Prime Air, said in a statement. “We will continue to develop and refine our technology to fully integrate delivery drones into the airspace, and work closely with the FAA and other regulators around the world to realize our vision of 30-minute delivery,” he added.
