New rules have been introduced in FASTAG from 1st August. The National Payments Corporation of India has issued guidelines for updating FASTag accounts for motorists to avoid hassles at toll plazas. Failure to comply with the new rules may result in FASTag being blacklisted. Several changes have been made in the rules to ease the traffic congestion at the toll plazas as well as facilitate smooth completion of electronic toll payments.
What to do in the new rules of FASTAG
The biggest change in the FASTAG regulation is the KYC update. As per the new guidelines, FASTags older than five years will have to be replaced by new ones. This process starts today. Users should apply for FASTag replacement from the FASTag issuing organization by verifying their account issue date. In this case the old Fastag account will be deactivated.
KYC update is mandatory for FASTag accounts that are three to five years old. Users and related service providers have to complete this process by October 31. Missing the deadline will result in account blacklisting.
Also, one of the new rules that have come in is to link vehicle registration number and chassis number with FASTag account. Also need to connect with the mobile phone number of the owner. Clear front and side photos of the vehicle need to be uploaded to complete the entire process. Finally, people buying a car on or after August 1 will have to update the registration number within three months.
