State-run telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, or BSNL, has announced the installation of 3,520 base transceiver stations across five core circles of North India, including Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh. Also, according to a report by Business Standard, BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Praveen Purwar said that BSNL is going to expand its 4G services to several other regions including Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu soon.
The report also states that apart from northern states, BSNL has chosen Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as the first regions for its 4G service rollout. The new network is expected to be operational in Tamil Nadu after April. According to a BSNL official, currently more than 4200 4G sites are under construction in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and soon users will be able to enjoy BSNL’s 4G services here as well.
Note that BSNL’s customer base continues to shrink. Because, in the absence of 4G and 5G, BSNL customers are constantly forced to accept the services of other companies. Even in rural areas, BSNL’s subscriber base is witnessing a drastic decline.
That is why the company is trying to complete the work of launching 4G in various states soon. Meanwhile, the Union Minister approved a Rs 24,500 crore deal with TCS-led C-Dot and Tejas Networks to procure 4G equipment required for setting up 1,00,000 new telecom towers.
Incidentally, BSNL plans to upgrade its 4G services to 5G by June 2024. And the government has announced a revival package for BSNL and MTNL.
