Maruti Suzuki launched the Jimny in India last year, originally a rival to the Mahindra Thar. Although everything went well initially, the car’s sales have been on a steady decline for the past few months. Only 163 units of Jimny were sold last month. Mahindra has sold more than 6,000 Thar models in that space. Maruti launched the Indian-made Jimny in Indonesia hoping to increase sales in this situation. Everything is the same as the Indian version, but the difference is that the engine start/stop push-button is missing.
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny five-door launched in the Indonesian market is powered by the same 1.5-litre petrol engine as the Indian model. It will produce a maximum power of 103 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 134 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The car can be optioned with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Suzuki is offering a four-wheel drive powertrain as a standard feature.
Incidentally, Maruti Suzuki sells this car in two versions in the Indian market – Zeta and Alpha. Automatic transmission is offered as optional in both variants. The two models are priced at Tk 12.74 lakh and Tk 14.95 lakh respectively (ex-showroom) in the country. And the price of the car in Indonesia starts from 24.48 lakh rupees in Indian currency.
Incidentally, Thunder Edition of Jimny was launched in the country in December last year. It was the cheapest model in the lineup. Price 10.74 lakhs (ex-showroom). However, being limited edition, all the models are already sold out. The Thunder Edition additionally gets front skid plates, side door cladding, door visors, door sill guards, grip covers in Rustic Tan, floor mats and exterior graphics.
