Bajaj Chetak shines as one of the brightest stars in the world of Indian scooters. In the last financial year i.e. 2022-23, Bajaj Auto has announced huge sales of the electric version of this historic scooter. Statistics show that Bajaj sold 36,260 units of the scooter from April 2022 to March 2023. Whereas only 8,187 units were sold during the same period a year ago. As a result, the demand has increased almost four times.
Bajaj Chetak sales quadrupled
Bajaj attributed the surge in sales to increased supply of semiconductor chips. However, from April to June 2022, they also said that they had to fight hard for semiconductor chips. Due to this, the production of Bajaj Chetak was also affected.
In this context, Bajaj Auto Chairman Neeraj Bajaj said, “It is clear that supply of semiconductor chips normalized after the first quarter of 2022-23. It was then that our company planned to increase production and sales.”
Bajaj has released its total two-wheeler sales figures for the month of June. Where mentioned, in the previous month they have been able to hand over the keys of 3,40,971 bikes and scooters to the buyers. Whereas in the previous year at the same time, the sales amount was 3,47,004 units, so a 2 percent decline has been observed in this year’s sales. Bajaj has sold a total of 10,27,407 motorcycles and scooters from April to June 2023. Whereas a year ago at that time this number was 9,33,646.
Bajaj has managed to sell a total of 1,66,292 units of two-wheelers in the Indian market alone. The number in June 2022 was 1,25,083 units. As a result, this year’s sales have risen by 33 percent. However, the company has seen a decline in two-wheeler exports in 2022-23 compared to 2021-22. Behind which is the economic instability of countries like Nigeria, Egypt, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, demonetisation in Nigeria, shortage of dollar etc.
