The Union Cabinet recently approved a revival package worth Rs 89,047 crore ($10.79 billion) for state-run telecom company BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited). Besides, the authorized capital of BSNL has been increased from Tk 1,50,000 crore to Tk 2,10,000 crore.
The Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi informed that the package awarded to BSNL includes the allocation of premium wireless frequencies for the 700 MHz band spectrum worth Rs 46,338.6 crore. Besides, some money of the package has been allocated for 4G and 5G spectrum.
Note that through this package provided by the government, 700 MHz, 3300 MHz, 26 MHz and 2599 MHz spectrum will be purchased, the amount of which is 46,334.60 crores, 26,184.20 crores, 6,564.93 crores and 9,428 crores respectively. 20 crore rupees.
Earlier in 2019, the government had given a revival package of Rs 69,000 crore to BSNL/MTNL (Metropolitan Telephone Corporation Limited). Then minister Ashwini Vaishnav approved a second revival package of Rs 1.64 lakh crore in 2022, to bring stability to the company.
According to official data, these packages have helped BSNL achieve operating profit from the financial year 2021-2022, and BSNL’s total debt has come down from Rs 32,944 crore to Rs 22,289 crore.
The meeting also said that the Center hopes that this revival package will help BSNL emerge as a stable telecom service provider in remote areas of India.
BSNL plans to launch 4G and 5G services across the country
A few days ago BSNL partnered with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to roll out 4G network across India. Incidentally, BSNL is set to launch 4G at a time when BSNL’s rivals have started offering 5G services to customers.
However, belatedly BSNL has now announced that they are soon going to launch 4G and 5G services across India. The state-owned telco also said it will be able to offer high-speed Internet through Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services, extending 4G coverage to remote villages.
