Qualcomm launches its Snapdragon 690 processor which provides 5G compatibility to the budget smartphones. Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 is the first product in its 6 series chip which comes with 5G support. Qualcomm already launched its Snapdragon 865 processor which brings 5G support to a flagship phone, Snapdragon 765G, and 768G with 5G support for a mid-range smartphone. Rather than 5G support, Qualcomm also added some major improvement in Snapdragon 690 as compared to previously launched Snapdragon 600 series processor.
What’s new in Snapdragon 690?
Snapdragon 690 5G is based on 8nm technology. It is powered by 64-bit Octa-core Qualcomm kryo 560 CPU which is the second chipset after Snapdragon 865 that feature 500-series Kryo core. Two Big cores of this processor are the ARM Cortex-77 cores, clocked at up to 2.0GHz, while the other six are ARM Cortex-A55 Cores.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 provides 20% more performance than its predecessor and 60% better graphics rendering because of the new Adreno 619L GPU.
For connectivity, Qualcomm uses Snapdragon X51 5G Modem-RF System in this processor which supports both Standalone Networks(SA) and Non-Standalone Networks (NSA). It offering download speed up to 2.5 Gbps and upload speed up to 660 Mbps. It supports up to 8GB 1866MHz RAM, 120Hz FHD+ Display with HDR10+, up to 192 Megapixel photo capture, 4K HDR video recording, and slow-motion videos at 720p at 240p FPS. Qualcomm 5th Generation AI Engine brings better AI experience.
Any Smartphone coming with Qualcomm Snapdragon 690?
According to the latest reports, Nokia 7.3 will be the first-ever smartphone equipped with Snapdragon 690. In the Second half of 2020 most of the budget phones expected to be launch with Snapdragon 690. Qualcomm OEM partner HMD Global, LG, and Motorola are already working on their new smartphone equipped with Snapdragon 690.
